canned the walls of the Southern Exposure
art gallery, one of the most famous public
art galleries on the West Coast!
After 32 years in the same industrial space
(which used to house the American Can Manufacturing
Company), Southern Exposure has closed its
doors for seismic retrofitting. But before
they shut the doors, REBAR created its EnCanment
project - a temporary canning operation
that harvested, processed and canned the gallery
itself.
REBAR systematically mapped and cored sections
of the gallery wall and, utilizing the latest
in industrial assembly-line technology, canned
the cores in metal cans on-site.
