Artist: Sheryl
Oring
Sheryl Oring, a New York-based artist, will
dress as a 1950s secretary and type postcards
to the President as dictated by the people
who stop by her office. This auction is for
the sale of one performance, to be scheduled
at a mutually agreed upon time. Hire Sheryl
to do the show for two hours anywhere in New
York! She will set up her office – complete
with an old-fashioned typewriter – and
type up anything you and your friends wish
to say to the President. You may mail the
originals to the White House, while Sheryl
will keep carbon copies for her archive.
Great for parties and holiday gifts!!
This performance, called "I Wish to Say,"
originated in a show commissioned by the First
Amendment Project (www.thefirstamendment.org)
in 2004 and presented at various locations
around the United States in 2004 and 2005.
Over the course of this time, Sheryl typed
more than 1,200 postcards to the president
from locations including the Las Vegas Strip,
Skid Row in Los Angeles, Boston, New York,
New Haven, St. Petersburg and many more places.
In 2006, she did a special edition of the
show, called "The Birthday Project,"
in which she typed birthday cards to the President
for his 60th birthday. This work was made
possible by a grant from the Creative Capital
Foundation (www.creative-capital.org)
and support from the Booklyn Artists Alliance
(www.booklyn.org).
Sheryl's work on this project has been featured
